New Wednesday Tradition

So, as a pretty die-hard fan of American Idol, I thought I'd start writing a recap/prediction every Wednesday, since I usually seem to be right on the money, but have no proof of my prophetic rants.
So, we'll start with last night's show, which seemed dull compared to last week's entertainment...

Lakeisha- she sang Donna Summer's Last Dance, which I must say may have been a bad choice for a couple of reasons. First off, the song was too "kareoke" for me, and even though her voice is good, you couldn't really tell with the business of the song. The beginning of it started out really slow (for dramatic effect) but it was much too slow for my tastes. Then she did all right in the up-tempo chorus. As Simon would say, it wasn't spectacular. Reason #2 that I would have never picked this song? Two words for you: Ryan Starr. She was sent packing after her rendition of "Last Dance" and the only reason I remember this is because she was bawling while she sang it for the last time, and it was HILARIOUS (obviously, if I still remember this several seasons later)! "This is my last chance, last dance......(sob, sob, sob)" It was classic. Will Lakeisha be safe? Who knows? I kinda like her story and all, I know she's just a single mom trying to make it, but dang, sympathy can only get you so far. She sang her ass off several weeks ago when she sang "You're gonna love me" and now we expect that amazing powerful performance. Unfortunately, she hasn't delivered since. I don't care about her anymore, and I predict that America is also losing the love. She'll barely dodge the bottom three tonight (thanks to some even worse performances), and if she doesn't take it up a notch, that's exactly where she'll be come next Wednesday.

Gina- she's OK, if you buy into the whole rocker-chick thing that she suddenly chose to become. But she's no better than Nicky McKibben was. It's OK, and she'll have all of the "rocker" votes, so she'll tweak by a little longer. Last night's performance of "I'll stand by you" was not bad, coming from her. She was one of the better singers last night, so that just shows what a crappy season this is. She's safe tonight.

Phil- This is another guy I find myself kinda rooting for cause of his story, but we can't ignore that AI is a singing competition, and with that in mind, he shoulda been gone weeks ago. He's about as famous as he's gonna get, so he'd better enjoy it while he can. No one will remember Phil Stacey a year from now. He sang "Every Breath You Take" which is a great song, but he bored the heck outta me. My prediction? Bottom 3 tonight.

Chris- Chris is awesome- I love him. It's not that he has such a great voice, but it's more that you wouldn't look at him and imagine that he has a great voice. He's the total underdog who will also not make it too much farther. His fans are hilarious, and his personality is alright but what the hell was he thinking with that song? I can barely stand "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic" when the Police sing it, much less Chris. This is 2007- there are a jillion songs that you could have chosen from, and you choose a sappy elevator tune? Ugh- I like you, but you messed up. Chris will however be safe tonight. Let's hope he learns his lesson steps up next week.

Melinda- I like her voice, I look forward to hearing her song each week, but those damn facial expressions have GOT TO GO. Seriously. If I were a judge, I'd tell her "You know, Melinda, that BLEW. You suck, your tacky outfit sucks, and you're not suited to sing back up for Sanjaya." just to see her face then. Ugh- I have to look away because her dopey "oh- you like me??? looks" make me wanna take a baseball bat to the screen. Yes, she's safe tonight, even though she picked a song that was so bland, I can't even remember it.

Sanjaya- What kind of an idiot picks a No Doubt song to sing in front of Gwen (who, as a side note, looked really cute last night- not all done up as usual.) And then, the hair. I won't even comment on it. Obviously, he realized after last week's performance that he can become just as famous for sucking as he can for winning, and by God, it's working for him. People who are not viewers of AI know who Sanjaya is. He's everywhere! So, the hair was just his way of keeping his "William Hung" fame going for another week. And it'll work. He's not going anywhere, dammit.

Blake- I love Blake. I REALLY Love Blake. I want Blake to call me on the phone and Beat-Box me a Love Song. In fact, he sang me a "Love Song" last night- by 311 (or The Cure, if you're into the Old-School Version) and he did a pretty good job. He didn't do anything original to it and no beat-boxing, but that's OK- I still love him and I still think he will be in the final 2. Definitely Safe tonight.

Jordan- Ugh- what can you say about her? I liked her, then I didn't like her, then last week, she was incredible and I liked her agin, and then last night, she disappointed me BIG TIME. First of all, who sings "Hey Baby" for a singing competion? She may as well have sung "Lady Marmalade", it was disgusting. BUT the judges liked it, so America will keep her around for it. She's not going anywhere tonight.

Haley- Singing "True Colors" was her GRAVE MISTAKE. I like her, mostly cuz she's from Texas, but her performance was soooo boring and soooo forgetable last night, and she was already on thin ice. Her outfit last night wasn't as "memorable" as last week's and she's gonna be wishing it was, cause not only is she in the bottom three tonight, but she will be heading home.

Chris Richardson- can't there be a bottom 4 this week? I almost forgot about him, it was that "special"- He also chose to sing a No Doubt Song, "Don't Speak" which is a great song, but not for him. He needs to stick to serenades and soft, smooth, sexy songs. Unfortuantely, he may not get the chance after tonight. Definitely in the bottom 3.

My prediction for the bottom 3:
PHIL STACEY
HALEY SCARNADO
CHRIS RICHARDSON

Phil will be sent back to his seat, and the suspence will be left to Haley and Chris.

*Usually, I'm more sure of my predictions, but tonight, it's too close to call between Haley and Chris, it really can go either way, but if I HAVE to pick, I'll guess that Haley will head home tonight.
